Thematic Project

We were given a task for our last assignment for this trimester which is the "Thematic Project". Each group is given a phrase "Creativity in the Context of Multimedia University" to expand all their ideas that they can think of to create a mind map. The objective of this project is to create a work that carries a theme or topic set by each of the individual group. Here are the stages that we encountered in the making of this project.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stage 1 : Mind mapping -Logical, Associated
Stage 2 : Essay
Stage 3 : Design Concept/Motto
Stage 4 : Juxtaposition
Stage 5 : Story board
Stage 6 : Short video

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stage 1 : Mind mapping -Logical, Associated

From the topic given "Creativity in the Context of Multimedia University", we split the content into two. Multimedia and Creativity. From there,we must give out any words that we can think of about Multimedia and Creativity. After quite some time, we came out with this 1st mind map.

Then we decided to choose the word People to make more specify on our next mind map. Here, we expand our mind map into 7 categories :

1.PLAY
2.INSPIRATION
3.HOOKS
4.NETWORK
5.COUNTRIES
6.ATTRIBUTES
7.LISTENING

Below is the mind map from the word People.

Stage 2 : Essay

From the word people with all the categories, our next task is to come out with an essay of a minimum 800 words. Our group manage to create about 1116 words ^_^ . Here is the essay.

Stage 3 : Design Concept/Motto

From the essay above, the design concept that our group chose is "Expect Nothing Got Something".

Stage 4 : Juxtaposition

After that, we need to choose only ONE word from the 2nd mind map that is Food by referring to the juxtaposition method that we have learned in class that is divided into two, Metaphor and Similes. We pick food and us it as a metaphor. Here is the rough sketch of our ideas :

Stage 5 : Story board

Next is the story board, after few days of brainstorming, we came up with the drawing that is related to Food that we chose earlier as our metaphor to describe what food can do in life for our upcoming short video.

Stage 6 : Short video

Finally, after 2 weeks of hardworking and consultation, here is the short video that we produced using flash. Hope you enjoy.

A big THANK YOU to Mr Halim and Mr Radzi Bedu for the advices given throughout the consultation.

Random Words/Image Association

Random Association is an idea generation method which allows students to systematically generate new ideas through a fixed formula. The whole premise of Random Association is to use a Random Word to provoke a reaction from the brain.

First, you take a word from a random word generator, Then, you extract its underlying principles and lastly, apply them to your problem to see how they can help.

From the random words, I pick Twitter as my main point to elaborate more. Then I selected four words that are related to Twitter.

TWITTER

~ Phone
- Twitter can be access from phone

~ News
- Can get the latest news by status updated from other users.

~ Video
- Can post or watch the latest videos posted by others.

~ Looking Cool
- By having twitter nowadays, you will look cool and trendy among friends.

Juxtaposition.Images to Words

Day and Night : Life, Hope

"Night time describe the hope for tomorrow and tomorrow is another day that will light up and bring happiness in our life."

Time : Gold, Valuable

Time is precious,
Time is gold,
When time goes by,
Consider sold.

Meaning that, we cannot turn back time. Let bygones be bygones.

Camera : Memory

Camera, a still witness of our life. Each one of us must have a story to tell, a wonderful moment to be captured and a picture to share.

How Merges when wrong??

Today's class exercise, we need to choose 2 animal and combine them into one. Every God's creation has its own function and reasons why they were created. If God creates this kind of abnormal creature, its a miracle but there must be something wrong and maybe its a sign or reminder to us humans to repent and treat all of His creations in this world. I choose to draw a fish and an elephant. So,here is my drawing :

Then, Mr Radzi gave a picture of a chili, and make a sentences or quote about L.O.V.E.

Love is like a chili, without it,there's no "kick" in a person heart.

After that, Mr Radzi gave a picture of Mortar & Pestle to describe Man and Women.

Mortar can best define as men because it is very hard like a men's heart. Men are stubborn but sometimes need love and pampered from a women. While pestle in the other hand, can best describe as women. They are difficult to understand but yet very dependent, caring and patients. Just like when we smash the 'sambal belacan' and chili, we do it with all our energy and patients.

Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition or is slowly pronounce " JUX-TA-PO-SI-TION " is often in describing art that is having two subjects side by side or within proximity in order to highlight a particular aspect of one or both subjects. As an example, picture a balloon resting gently upon the blade of a knife. One could describe that the gentle nature of the balloon is juxtaposed with the harshness of the knife, also can be describe as a symbol.

~ Analogy are divided in 2 different types : ~

1) Metaphor
A metaphor is a figure of speech concisely expressed by an implied analogy between two objects or ideas, conveyed by the use of a word instead of another. Metaphors compare two things without using "like" or "as". As an example:

"John was a record-setting runner. That speeding bullet could zip past you without you even knowing he was there." (John being the speeding bullet)

2)Similes
A simile is a figure of speech comparing two unlike things, often introduced with the word "like" or "as". Similes allow the two ideas to remain distinct in spite of their similarities. As an example :
"John was a record-setting runner and as fast as a speeding bullet."

~ Besides that, there are 2 categories of analogy, which is : ~

LOGICAL ANALOGIES
Uses similarities in the design, structure or function of to connect back to the subject.

AFFECTIVE ANALOGIES
Affective analogies are the emotional resemblance. Basically, affective analogies uses animal to describe one's person.

Here is an example of a juxtaposition advertisement

Juxtaposition of art

Our class today is, we need to choose 3 random number from 0-99.

I chose the number 16, 02 and 88. Then, combine both numbers to make a word. Each number consists of one word.
16 - Flower + Spider
02 - Fly + Rock
88 - Oil + Wood

After we have combine the words, we need to make a short sentence that include both words in the sentence.

16 - Flower + Spider : A little girl pluck a flower as an umbrella for the spider because it was raining cats and dogs.

02 - Fly + Rock : A bird fly over the rock to get to the other side.

88 - Oil + Wood : A traveler found out that an oil can be produced out of a wood.

Lastly, we need to compress our drawing into a symbol.

Mind Mapping

Mind maps are brainstorming diagrams based on a central idea or image, typically used to aid in organisation, problem solving and decision making. Mind maps use a non-linear graphical form that allows the user to build an intuitive framework around the central idea. It helps us think and remember better, creatively solve problem and take action.

By drawing a mind map, it is advisable try to have the different categories in
different colors, to make it easier to identify. So, when we memorize, the color will be easily access the information easily.

There are two type of mind mapping :
1. Logical Mind mapping

2. Associates Mind mapping

Characteristics of Mindmapping
Non-emotive words and image
Hard facts
Logical and make sense
Serious
Linearity
Analysis

In our previous class, Mr Halim asked us to do a mind map about anything such as a burger, clothes, food and so on. I came up with this mind mapping of TIME.

Our next class exercise, we learn about Mortar and Pestle. Randomly, we need to choose 3 words in the mind map given by Mr Radzi, make a short sentences and describe it by drawing . I choose coconut, smoke and beautiful.
Here are the results of what i've made and the drawing ^_^ .

Coconut
Use mortar and pestle to break the coconut.

Smoke
Use mortar and pestle to make smoke.

Beautiful
To be beautiful, use pestle to scrub off the dark skin so it will turn to white, and use mortar to collect the dirty skin.

Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention

NOVELTY

Novelty that is derived from Latin word novem for "new" is the quality of being new. Although it may be said to have an objective dimension example a new style of art coming into being, such as abstract art or impressionism, it essentially exists in the subjective perceptions of individuals.

CREATIVITY

Creativity is define as the act of turning new and imaginative ideas into reality. Creativity involves two processes : thinking, then producing. Innovation is the production or implementation of an idea. If you have ideas, but don't act on them, you are imaginative but not creative.

INNOVATION

Innovation is a new way of doing something. It may refer to incremental and emergent or radical and revolutionary changes in thinking, products, processes or organizations.

INVENTION

An invention is the discovery or creation of a new material (either a new manufactured product or a new composition or matter), a new process, a new use for an existing material, or any improvements of any of these.
